Education for All
The ideal of education for all is closely linked to our values as a Nordic welfare state. Everyone has the right and opportunity to study and receive quality education. At Otava Folk High School, adults can major in music (band) as well as enrol in a number of courses. Our visual arts classes are especially popular in the summertime.
Workshops
Otava Folk High School has developed a comprehensive workshop programme. We organise monthly workshops with experts from a number of fields such as futures studies, pedagogy, media and IT-technology. We are also actively involved in the eDelfoi programme. Innovative teaching methods are implemented at the workshops with the help of information and communications technology.
Phenomena-based Teaching and Learning
Otava Folk High School is actively involved in Phenomena-based teaching and learning. This valuable educational tool aims to expand the students' knowledge beyond the classroom with the help of real-life examples.
Tenth Grade
Comprehensive school in Finland lasts from grades one to nine. Some tenth-graders that attend Otava Folk High School may want to take a year off school by staying at school, get more confidence, or a clearer idea where their educational future lies. Others may attend to raise their grade-point average. This will improve their chances of enrolling at an upper secondary or vocational school of their choice. We offer tenth-graders information and communications, media- and music-oriented courses.
Online Comprehensive and Online Upper Secondary School for Adults
No matter how old you are, it is never too late to learn and complete a degree. Finishing your comprehensive or upper secondary school studies can be done today in your time and from the comfort of your home. Some of our students live and work in foreign countries as well as on campus.
Comprehensive School Programme for Immigrants
We are the only school in the district of Mikkeli that offers a comprehensive school programme for immigrants. Finnish culture and immigrant orientation courses form part of our school programme. We believe that education is an important bridge-builder between cultures.

Otava Folk High School is involved in a number of projects in information and communications technology, pedagogy and social media with partners in Finland and abroad.
